Wormy Chestnut Sliding Barn Door (Hardware Not Included)
Wormy Chestnut describes a species of American Chestnut trees that were killed by a fungus, known as “Chestnut Blight” in the early 1900’s. Many of the Chestnut trees stood damaged by insects, leaving pin-sized holes and discoloration of the wood. In an effort to reduce the risk of this disease spreading to other tree species, these trees were quickly hewn down and milled into lumber. Because of the blight wiping out nearly all mature American Chestnut trees, today Wormy Chestnut lumber is unique and valuable. This wood is equally rich in character and American history. We are proud to offer it in a way that gives it new life.
