A Tool Every Person Should Own

Whether you pay $5 or $50 for a knife, the chances are high that you won’t say, “I always carry a knife, but never use it.” How many times in the vehicle have you made a purchase and needed to get in the box before leaving the parking lot? Those manufacturers secure those things like nobody’s business, and those clear clamshell packages…good luck getting a key to break through those.

One of the most important things when considering to carry a knife is to understand the difference between it being a tool and a weapon. When thinking of a screwdriver it’s first considered a tool, but we all know it can do bodily harm too. Most importantly, your knife is a tool and you must think of it that way.

Here's a good starting point for knives that are affordable and will get the job done.

A folding pocket knife I recommend for you is the Cracked Ice Lockback by Imperial Schrade. It doesn't cost a fortune (about $10 bucks) and it's enough to get the job done. It measures 3-5/8" closed, so it can fit easily into a pocket or storage area without taking up too much space. The stainless blade measures 2-1/2". The cracked ice composition mimics mother of pearl look without the price. These handles have nickel silver bolsters and an inlay shield.

I also recommend a folding knife for travel purposes because the butt end of it makes for a great window punch in case you find yourself in a situation where you need to break the glass or quickly cut the seatbelt.

If a folding knife isn’t the way you want to go, consider a credit card knife. It eliminates the extra bulk of carrying one in a pocket or purse, and it's still very functional.

The Swisscard Lite is a multi-tool card knife from Victorinox. Inspired by its ancestor, the Swiss Army Knife, but in a discreet credit card form. It Measures 3 - 1/4" x 2 - 1/8". This example is the translucent sapphire color, but other colors are available. Tools include small knife blade, scissors, straight pin, pressurized ball point pen, tweezers, magnifying glass, 3mm and 5mm screwdrivers, Phillips screwdriver, LED Mini Light, and ruler (in/cm).

If you're intrigued by card knives, but don't want the multi-purpose uses, the Boker Plus knife is a fantastic choice. It measures 2-3/4" closed. It's a framelock, meaning it locks in place when being used. It has a 2-1/4" 440C stainless blade, titanium frame, and a steel pocket clip. The blade lies flush against the handle for safety purposes and it's chisel ground on one side. This means the sharp side is beside the metal and the blunt side is the only one exposed. The clip can also be removed with a screwdriver if you prefer.

Last but certainly not least, this little LED ink pen knife is fantastic!! It measures 5-1/2" overall and pulls apart to reveal a 2-1/4" partially serrated stainless steel blade. If that's not cool enough, it's also a flashlight! It's literally the best five dollars I've ever spent. Everyday I need an ink pen and I need to open something.

All-in-all, whether you want to spend around $5.95 for this handy ink pen knife or $32 for the Swisscard, you will not regret your decision to make your daily activites, errands, and chores, a little easier.
